Areas of Study
Michael J. Hoover, new Assistant Director of the Institute for Leadership, comes with 42 years of experience as both a Catholic and public secondary educator. As a former leadership team member and department chair for Carroll County Public Schools, he is familiar with curriculum writing and implementation and state assessment alignment.
As an AP English teacher, Hoover is proficient in formal assessment in English, public speaking and debate. Editor of three poetry books and author of Better Left Unsaid, his fine art photography has been gallery shown and award winning; his poetry has been nominated for a Pushcart prize. He established, and co-directed for six years, a writing center serving 1300 students. As a twenty-year veteran of directing theater, he is more than familiar with critique for public performance.
He is also a published journalist, poet, and photographer. He served as Greater Hanover Area Poet Laureate for two consecutive two-year terms. Hoover currently instructs SAT Critical Reading and Writing prep for Penn State York and is PA Regional Coordinator for Poetry Out Loud.
He looks forward to using his skills and abilities to serve seniors at the Mount with processing and presenting their Veritas portfolios this semester.
