Founder's Scholarship Competition Time: 9:00a - 2:00p Location: Patriot Hall Details:
The Founder's Scholarship is an on-campus essay competition that gives eligible senior students the opportunity to contend for one of two full-tuition scholarships.Students who meet certain academic criteria (3.5 or above GPA and 1150 or greater SAT or 24 or higher ACT) will be sent an invitation after all application materials are received and student has been accepted into the Honors Program. We strongly encourage students who believe they are eligible to send applicaiton materials in the fall of their senior year. The day includes breakfast with various Mount community members.During the exam admissions will provide information sessions for parents from various departments. A student-led campus tour will be offered for all and the opportunity to learn more about the Mount's Honors Program. An optional mass will be offered at the conclusion of the program at 2:30 p.m. To register, please contact the Admissions Office (301) 447-5214 or refer to the instructions in the students invitation.

Guest Artists to Perform Works of Polish Composer Karol Szymanowski
Mount St. Mary’s University will present the music of Karol Szymanowski--considered the greatest figure in Polish music in the first half of the 20th century-- in a recital titled, “Sensitive colorist: A Festival of Karol Szymanowski Works.” The performance will take place on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. in the Horning Theater of the Delaplaine Fine Arts Center, located on the campus of Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The event is free and open to the public.
Dickinson College faculty violinist Blanka Bednarz and Haverford College faculty in piano Matthew Bengtson will present selected works of Szymanowski’s for solo piano as well as violin and piano. The artists will interlace playing and dialogue, revealing to the audience a world of romanticism, impressionism, unique sensitivity and vitality, lush color and emotional richness in the music. As champions of Szymanowski’s music, the artists are delighted to bring his gorgeous sound world to audiences at Mt. Saint Mary’s and Emmitsburg.
In summer 2011 Bednarz performed Szymanowski’s works in the Beijing Concert Hall, under the auspices of Szymanowski Festival, an event of cultural program of the Polish Presidency of EU and the Polish Ministry of Culture in China. She can be heard on Capstone Records, Acte Prealable and Musica Omnia. Matthew Bengtson, a Pennsylvania-On-Tour Artist on has been heard in solo recitals at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, and has appeared with violinist Joshua Bell on NPR’s “Performance Today” and XM Satellite Radio’s “Classical Confidential.” His recordings can be heard on the Roméo, Arabesque, Navona, Griffin Renaissance and Albany record labels.
Honor's Overnight Experience Program (Founder's Scholarship) Time: 5:00p - 2:00p Location: Knott Auditorium Details:
Accepted high school seniors who have registered to attended the Founder's Scholarship competition are invited to experience the Mount first-hand during this Sunday to Monday program. Visiting students will be hosted by current Honor's freshmen and will have the opportunity to attend first-year classes in our Veritas program during the day on Monday. Host and student match-ups are made based on gender and availability of hosts. On Monday parents will attend presentations from different departments on campus starting with registration at 9:30 in the O'Hara Meeting Room. Presentations by: Admissions,Financial Aid, Social Justice, Academics, Career Center, Public Safety, ResidenceLlife, Center for Student Diversity and Campus Ministry. An optional student-led campus tour will be offered at the conclusion of the program.
