      Join Women's Empowerment and the Office of Social Justice to watch a movie themed to Women's History month and join in discussion with the local community at the Thurmont Library. 

       
       
    • Indoor Cycling Time: 5:30p - 6:30p Location: Knott ARCC-Spin Studio Details:

      Instructors will guide you through several workout phases including warm-up, steady up-tempo cadences, sprints, climbs, and cool-downs. You control resistance on your bike to make the pedaling as easy or difficult as you choose. Constant adjustment is normal. All you'll need is workout clothes, a towel (to wipe your face), a water bottle and lots of positive energy.

    • Lecture: How John Hughes Saved New York’s Irish & Showed the Power of Civil Society Time: 7:00p - 8:15p Location: Knott Auditorium Details:

      Hughes’ hard childhood in poverty in Ireland and his solid Mount education in Emmitsburg prepared him to lead the Church in New York when so many of his fellow Irish flooded into the city in the 1840s and 1850s. As Archbishop, he responded with a public defense of the Irish against discrimination and nativism in America, the building of schools to give them skills, and churches, religious associations and the Gospel to build their character. Within a generation, the Irish were connected and on their way.

      This event highlights the amazing life and accomplishments of Archbishop Hughes. It will also take Hughes’ experience as evidence of the rich and irreplaceable roles of civil society, to use relationships in building people in character and passing on ideals. We’ll close with how faith-based universities like the Mount can support civil society today.

      Fr. Richard Shaw is the author of leading biographies of John Hughes (Dagger John: The Unquiet Life and Times of Archbishop John Hughes of New York) and John Dubois, being republished this year by the Mount. He is a priest in the diocese of Albany, has a Ph.D. in criminal justice, teaches at Siena College, and been involved in prison ministry for over forty years.

      Stanley Carlson-Thies was one of the founders of George W. Bush’s Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives, consultant for the Obama and Trump administrations, and remains actively involved in faith-based programs as director of the Institutional Religious Freedom Alliance. He is currently spearheading a multi-year project for the Templeton Foundation on the power of faith based programs and how to strengthen them, and author (with Stephen Monsma) of Free to Serve: Protecting the Religious Freedom of Faith-Based Organizations (Brazos 2015).

      A barbell workout that incorporates functional strength training by using weights and bodyweight in every movement plane.  The safe, motivating exercises and great music create a thrilling results-based fitness class experience.
