Mount Radio History
In 1942, a group of students who had dabbled in short wave radio founded the Mount's first radio club. In the 1950s a radio station went on the air broadcasting only on campus. In 1963, the FCC granted the Mount a license to broadcast on the AM band.
In the 1970s, the Mount switched to the FM band, broadcasting at our current frequency (89.9), with 10 watts of power. In the 1980s our signal was strengthened to 100 watts. We currently have a signal strength around 130 watts.
In 2001, WMTB Emmitsburg went global via the use of the internet (www.msmary.edu/wmtb). Now everyone in the world with access to the internet is able to listen live.
