Adult Elementary Education/Special Education Degree

Mount St. Mary's University prepares teachers for today and tomorrow. With a broad and integrated liberal arts curriculum, the Mount provides a foundation for teachers at all levels. Through our curriculum, prospective teachers obtain the following outcomes: (1) demonstrate the content and pedagogical knowledge, skills and dispositions to effect student learning; (2) examine learning to shape their practice; (3) demonstrate commitment to the diversity, dignity, equality and rights of the individual; (4) demonstrate leadership as active participants in the education community; and (5) respond to the demands of an increasingly diverse technological and global society. Successful completion of the program will put students in the position to earn Maryland State certification.

Admission Requirements & Application

Individuals wishing to apply for admission in the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education must meet the following requirements:

  • Completed application - Apply Online

  • Completed request for criminal background check (includes payment)

  • Completed declaration of college major form for elementary education - See Academic Forms

  • Three or more years of full-time work experience

Program Details

Students must complete 120 credits of coursework, including independent study. Traditional 15-week courses meet one night a week from 6-9:30 p.m. at the Mount's Frederick campus

Applications are accepted year-round. Entry points for enrollment are in the fall, spring, and summer.
