Accounting Major and Minor

The accounting curriculum focuses on the current theories and practices of the accounting profession. The content is designed to prepare majors to work effectively in a broad range of organizational positions requiring specialization in accounting.

Accounting Major

A bachelor of science degree in accounting requires a minimum of 30 credits and completion of the core curriculum. 

Majors must take the following courses:

This major prepares the graduate for careers in a broad range of organizational positions requiring accounting skills. Students with an accounting major will be eligible to sit for the Maryland CPA exam.

Accounting Minor

Accounting minors must take a minimum of 18 credits. Electives should be selected in consultation with advisors and are subject to the approval of the chair of the department.

Minor Courses include:

  • ACCT 101, 102, 201, 202

  • Six credit hours of accounting electives (approved by the accounting program)

  • Econ 101 (non-business majors only - fulfills the requirement for a foundational social science)

Declaration of Major and Declaration of Minor forms are available through the registrar's office.
