The Department of Education provides students access to materials needed to progress through the program of study. Below are the resource topics included in this collection:

Advising is a form of teaching. Faculty advising of students involves formal matters such as approving course schedules prior to registration, helping students devise plans for their majors and other academic programs, and prompting students to monitor their own academic progress toward the degree. Faculty advising also includes conversation about students’ developing academic life and aspirations for the future. As students move toward graduation, faculty advisors, together with the Career Center staff, can offer guidance about employment and about graduate and professional school. Students should cultivate this advising relationship and draw on it throughout their time at Mount St. Mary’s.
Assignment of Faculty Advisors to Students
During freshman year, Veritas Symposium instructors advise first-year students. This ensures that students will see their advisors regularly and that the advisor will know the academic progress of his or her symposium students. Beginning in the sophomore year, students who have chosen a major are assigned a faculty advisor from their major department(s).
Internships and Practicums
Requirements for Teacher Internships:
Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
Recommendation of the chair.
There is a fee of $219 for the Internship I program, generally payable upon registration for the first course in Internship I. There is a fee of $272 for Internship II, generally payable upon registration for the first course in Internship II.
Students must arrange their own transportation to internship placements and assignments.

Due Dates: March 31 for Adult undergraduate and Elementary and Elementary/Special Education MAT applications;
October 31 for traditional undergraduate and Secondary MAT applications.
*Note: Maryland passing scores for Praxis I must be earned prior to entering Internship I, or equivalent test scores must be on file, such as SAT or ACT (GRE scores are acceptable for MAT candidates). Information about qualifying Maryland equivalent scores can be found at MSDE Praxis I Information. For MAT candidates in social studies, business, English, mathematics or foreign language, Maryland passing scores on the content portion of Praxis II must also be earned prior to Internship I.

Intern Emergency Contact Form— Please complete this form at the beginning of each internship and submit a copy to your mentor teacher, university supervisor and the School of Education and Human Services.
Absence Form — Please complete this form for all absences from internship and submit to the PDS Coordinator.
Mentor Teacher Evaluation Form — This form will be sent to candidates electronically at the conclusion of each internship experience. Please complete and submit to the School of Education and Human Services.
University Supervisor Evaluation Form — This form will be sent to candidates electronically at the conclusion of each internship experience. Please complete and submit to the School of Education and Human Services.
