Institute for Leadership Opportunities

The Institute for Leadership provides opportunities for Mount St. Mary's University students to strengthen their leadership skills. No matter where you are in your leadership journey, we are here to support you, to connect you to resources and programs on campus, and to offer leadership development through our own Institute’s programs, including Emerging Leaders and collaborations across campus. The Institute sponsors monthly events such as speakers, discussions, films, panels, debates, and service opportunities.

The Emerging Leaders Series

The Emerging Leaders Series is a free, non-credited, 7-week leadership certification program that provides Mount students with the tools that they need to become successful leaders. The series uses Peter G. Northouse’s seminal work Introduction to Leadership, Concepts and Practices. Students are nominated by First-Year Symposium faculty and can participate in either the fall or spring semester. All other undergraduates may also apply using the ELS Application form.

The Emerging Leaders Series is held on Tuesdays from 4–5:15 p.m. in the ILS Office, Pangborn Memorial Room.

The fall 2016 session begins Tuesday, September 27.

The ELS dates are:  9/27, 10/4, 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/8, 11/15, Graduation 11/29

Benefits of the Emerging Leaders Series:

  • Engage with a community of campus leaders

  • Discover your personal leadership style

  • Refine your leadership skills

  • Use your skills to make a difference

  • Become a part of this Mount tradition!

Constitution Day

Mount St. Mary’s University, along with over 40 other college and universities, celebrates Constitution Day in conjunction with The Jack Miller Center Constitution Day Initiative to help strengthen the awareness of the need for education in the American Constitutional tradition.

The program offers students a unique opportunity to engage in a civil discussion of the fundamental questions animating a free society with some of our nation’s leading scholars, jurists and officials.
