MSMU and FCC Partner for Cybersecurity and Biology Transfer Opportunities

MSMU FCC articulationEMMITSBURG, Md. - Mount St. Mary’s University (MSMU) and Frederick Community College (FCC) have partnered to offer two new articulation agreements that will make it easier for FCC graduates from two STEM-related fields to transfer to MSMU to complete a bachelor’s degree in biology or cybersecurity.

“We know biology and cybersecurity programs at FCC and Mount St. Mary’s University are popular programs that prepare students to enter critical, in-demand career fields,” said FCC President Elizabeth Burmaster. “Setting our students up for success is a top priority at FCC, and this articulation agreement with Mount St. Mary’s University provides a great opportunity for students to further their education.”

These articulation agreements are the first between FCC and the Mount’s School of Natural Science and Mathematics. The two institutions also have an articulation agreement for their criminal justice programs. The agreements ensure students know exactly what courses at FCC can be applied toward the bachelor’s degree requirements at MSMU.

“We’re excited to continue to shape and develop educational opportunities that truly benefit students in their pursuit of a meaningful and productive career,” said Mount St. Mary’s University Interim President Timothy Trainor, Ph.D. “Thanks to the collaborative efforts of President Burmaster and Frederick Community College, students interested in cybersecurity or biology have another choice in helping them achieve their career goals.”

FCC students who earn an A.S. degree in STEM with a concentration in biology and meet GPA requirements will be able to transfer up to 60 credits toward their Bachelor of Science degree at the Mount. Once in the program, students can also apply up to 32 transfer credits to required components of the major. Students who earn an A.A.S. degree in cybersecurity at FCC and meet GPA requirements will also be able to transfer up to 60 credits to the Mount and can apply up to 24 transfer credits to required components of the major.

“Often transferring to a four-year college from a two-year college can be confusing and full of hurdles,” says Jeffrey Simmons, Ph.D., dean of the School of Natural Science and Mathematics at Mount St. Mary’s University. “Our goal is to remove barriers and red tape so that these motivated students are encouraged to make the transition and not get discouraged. Both institutions are committed to the success of students.”
