Mount St. Mary's to Present Forum on the Korean Nuclear Challenge

graphicEMMITSBURG, Md. (April 12, 2018) – Mount St. Mary’s University President Timothy E. Trainor, Ph.D., a retired brigadier general, and William M. Prudden III, C’96, director of student engagement, faculty development and innovative curriculum for the Mount’s Frederick campus, will speak at Mount St. Mary’s University on April 17 about the Korean nuclear challenge. The talk, scheduled for 6 p.m. in Knott Auditorium, is being presented in association with the Mount’s Department of History and its America in the World class.

Trainor and Prudden will provide background on the present Korean nuclear crisis, delving into the legacy of the Korean War in the 1950s and the divergent paths that North Korea and South Korea have taken. They then will address two big questions:

  • Should the United States hold steadfast in our commitments to South Korea and Japan?
  • Should the U.S. launch a preemptive strike against North Korea’s nuclear weapons?

The forum, which is open to the public, will conclude with questions from and discussion with the audience.
