Mount St. Mary’s Junior Receives Dream Support Grant from the National Society of Leadership and Success

Julia Myron grantEMMITSBURG, Md. (May 25, 2018) – Julia Myron, C’20, is realizing her dreams, using  the Dream Support Grant she recently received from the National Society of Leadership and Success, the largest collegiate honor society in the United States. Myron, a Mars, Pennsylvania native and graduate of Quigley Catholic High School, will use the grant to gain the knowledge and acquire the resources that she needs to start a calligraphy business.

A theology major with a math minor, Myron dreams about becoming a religion teacher with a calligraphy business on the side. She became interested in calligraphy when she designed wedding invitations for her siblings’ weddings. In the process, she discovered a company that offers classes on calligraphy and the business aspects of calligraphy. She wanted to take two of the courses but couldn’t afford them. The scholarship allows her to benefit from the classes and purchase materials.

“I am very excited to get started on both of these classes and cannot wait to see where this takes me!” Myron said.

The Mount’s National Society for Leadership and Success chapter, Sigma Alpha Pi, is rapidly growing, with 210 members inducted since the chapter was founded in February 2017.  The Society nominates sophomores and older, including nontraditional adult students from the Mount’s Frederick Campus. Candidates must undergo a series of intensive leadership training steps that are designed to cultivate the necessary mindset and skills that every leader needs to succeed. The society offers a broad range of opportunities for leadership development and achievement, including leadership orientation, live screenings of nationally recognized leaders and volunteer service. A few of the many benefits Society members receive are scholarships and awards such as Myron’s, success networking team, professional communication training, graduation honors, leadership training certification and nationwide networking.
