MSMU Agreement Provides FCPS Employees With Tuition Reduction

FCPS signing tuition reductionEMMITSBURG, Md. (August 13, 2018) – Mount St. Mary’s University (MSMU) and Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) are demonstrating their commitment to lifetime learning in the community by announcing an agreement to provide FCPS employees tuition reduction for programs at the MSMU Frederick Campus.

The nearly 5,800 employees of the school district includes about 2,940 teachers, 140 principals or assistant principals and 860 instructional assistants who are expected to be interested in advanced education degrees as well as initial teaching certification.

Noting that the partnership allows all 5,771 fulltime equivalent FCPS employees, including non-educators, to receive discounted tuition on the accelerated undergraduate degrees, postbaccalaureate certificates, and graduate degrees offered at the Frederick campus, MSMU Provost Boyd Creasman said, “The Mount is proud to partner with Frederick County Public Schools on this important initiative. The Mount and FCPS are clearly committed to lifelong learning in our community.”

Under the memorandum of understanding, employees of FCPS will receive 20 percent off their tuition, starting with the Fall 2018 semester. The reduced tuition rate does not apply to supplies, books, fees, or other costs associated with a program.

“FCPS is committed to maintaining a highly-skilled, highly-educated professional workforce, said FCPS Superintendent Dr. Terry Alban. “This agreement between FCPS and MSMU reaffirms that commitment. The Mount is an outstanding partner and an outstanding educational institution. We are proud to work with them.”

FCPS employees will benefit from reduced tuition for undergraduate programs in elementary education, elementary education/special education, accounting, business administration, criminal justice and human services; master’s degrees in teaching, education in reading, education in technology facilitation, education in instructional leadership, biotechnology and management, business administration, health administration and sports management; and graduate certificates in advanced study in reading, postbaccalaureate in instructional leadership, postbaccalaureate in technology facilitation, quality assurance and regulatory science, project management, organizational development, government contracting, forensic accounting and fraud investigation, logistics and supply chain management, data science, and risk management and cybersecurity for professionals.
