EMMITSBURG, Md. - Two Frederick County colleges, Frederick Community College and Mount Saint Mary’s University, are forming a partnership which allows students to leverage in particular areas of study. The program makes it easier for FCC student’s transferring to Mount Saint Mary’s to complete degrees in stem related fields.

"The reason were so excited about this is it helps break down the red tape and bureaucracy that exists between students who leave a two year program and they try to enter a four year institution" says Timothy Trainor, President of Mount St. Mary's University.

The program was also approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission.

Officials from Mount Saint Mary’s University say the articulation agreement is a kickoff to help Frederick Community College transfer student’s complete degrees in biology and cyber security.

This new program is expected to give students a clear path to excel in growing fields.

"Frederick being the second largest city now in the state, is an opportunity to actually have the impact of higher education work more closely with the communities and with industries already here" says Jennie Hunter-Cevera, Interim Provost.

To strengthen their program in cyber security, officials at the Mount also discussed with the CIA and FBI on their latest needs in new hires.

The university is looking forward to extending the program to other colleges in the area.

The two institutions also have an articulation agreement for their criminal justice programs.
