EMMITSBURG, Md. - After weeks of waiting, Mount St. Mary's University now has three students that have been awarded the Fulbright ETA award.

On Wednesday, Senior Brigid Flay, was selected as a finalist for a 2017 -18 Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) program award to Kazahkstan. Through the program, Flay will assist local English teachers and serve as a cultural ambassador. Flay said she is honored to be selected out of many applicants around the world.

"The thing that I would probably look forward too is learning Russian,” said Flay. “I take Russian classes in Frederick a couple times a week now and I love the language. So, going to place that they would speak it everyday would be great."

Two other students at the Mount were accepted in the Fulbright ETA program earlier this year. Samantha Solis and Alyse Spiehler were also named Fulbright finalists to Argentina and Mexico.

Officials with the university say that last year, only one institution in the nation had a 100 percent success rate with at least three applicants.
