Honors Program Application

Application to the Honors Program through this site is for students who are currently enrolled at the Mount. If you are a prospective student seeking admission to Mount St. Mary’s University, you will be invited to join the Honors Program through the Admissions Office if you meet the admissions requirements.

Application Requirements

Only current first-year students may apply to the Honors program. Applications are submitted at the end of the freshman year, and admitted students are inducted into the program in the fall of their sophomore year.

To apply to the Honors Program, students must have a minimum career GPA of 3.4. This should be based on the student’s first two semesters of Mount course work.

The following must be submitted no later than two weeks after the final day of the spring exam week.

  1. The application form (below).
  2. An unofficial transcript with spring semester grades. Unofficial transcripts can be obtained through portal and should be submited by email to the Director of Honors Program.
  3. Two letters of recommendation from faculty members. These letters should describe your academic potential and achievements, your involvement in the campus community, and your leadership potential. Letters should be sent by email directly to the Director of Honors Program.
  4. A piece of writing submitted for a class during the student’s first year at the Mount. This writing sample can be uploaded using the link in the form below. Information about the course for which the assignment was submitted should also be entered.
  5. A personal essay articulating the student’s reasons for wanting to join the Honors Program. This essay can be uploaded using the link in the application form below.

Writing Sample (required)
Upload a writing sample. This sample should be a piece of writing you have previously submitted for a class assignment at the Mount. Please list the course information from which the assignment originated.
Personal Essay (required)
Below upload a short one page essay (two pages at most) in which you articulate your rationale for joining the University Honors Program. Describe your academic achievements, citizenship on campus, and the leadership potential and qualities that you have that will enhance our Honors Program.
