Assistant Director, Career Center

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Director of the Career Center, the Assistant Director (School of Natural Science and Math and Department of Education), is responsible for providing comprehensive career services to undergraduate and graduate students on a routine basis, and to alumni in these programs. The Assistant Director has responsibility for directing the SNSM internship program as well as marketing and execution of programs and events for students, employers and alumni. The Assistant Director will also manage the on-campus recruitment process for the Division of Education. The Assistant Director will represent the Career Center at various college programs and events and assist the Director where necessary.

MAJOR TASKS:

The Assistant Director, SNSM will manage all aspects of the SNSM internship program which include:

  1. Internship and Job Development 
  • ​Identify and cultivate internship and job sites appropriate to Mount St. Mary's students.
  • Conduct workshops related to the internship and job processes.
  • Work with the Lead Internship Coordinator, faculty and administrators to communicate policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and send routine correspondence to employers, students and faculty.
  • Maintain data on all aspects of the SNSM internship program, including semester records and activity reports.
  • Report credit related information to the Assistant Director /lead internship coordinator on a regular basis.
  • Communicate with the Assistant Director/Lead Internship Coordinator and Director on issues relevant to the Internship Program.
  • Rotated responsibility to plan and implement on campus Career Fair.
  1. Creation, Marketing and Presentation of School of Natural Science and Math and Department of Education programs and services.
  • Create programs, prepare brochures, newsletters and flyers in order to advertise programs to students, employers and faculty.
  • Support Career Pathways program with appropriate events and contacts relevant to the School’s needs.
  • Share in updating information for the Career Center web pages and online resources.
  • Promote career and employment services to employers and community organizations
  • Maintain/update the School of Natural Science and Math internship and job postings online.
  1. Advising Students 
  • ​Advise students seeking internships, jobs and graduate school; regarding program policies and procedures, assist with resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, and search strategies, and conduct mock interviews.
  • Advise students regarding graduate and professional options and the application process.
  • Advise graduates students and alumni in career counseling and office services.
  • Conduct specialized workshops for undergraduates, graduate students, alumni and parents in the SNSM.
  1. Division of Education responsibilities:
  • ​Manage on-campus job recruitment process for the Division of Education.
  • Identify and cultivate job sites appropriate to Mount St. Mary's Education students.
  • Provide information to and advise students on the on-campus recruitment process.
  • Maintain positive productive working relationships with Education employer partners.

MINOR TASKS

  1. Assist the Director of the Career Center where necessary.
  2. Attend evening/week-end programs for prospective and current students and alumni.
  3. Provide services as needed to the Mount’s Frederick campus.
  4. Prepare department reports, surveys and assessment measures.
  5. Create and implement new programs.
  6. Participate in professional development activities on and off campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This is a professional staff position, appointed by the Director of the Career Center with the approval of the Provost.  The position prefers a Master’s Degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, or a related field and at least two years’ experience with career planning, internships, human resources or related program administration. The position also requires strong written and oral communication, organizational, interpersonal and computer skills and the ability to build positive rapport with students, faculty, administration, staff, alumni and employers.
