Director of Music Ministry - Part Time

The Director of Music Ministry furthers the Catholic mission of Mount St. Mary’s University through the gift of music.  The Director is part the Campus Ministry team who together with the staff and volunteer student leaders shares in supporting and encouraging active
University by supporting and encouraging the active participation in the worship and liturgical life of the Church on campus.


  1. Chapel Choir:

The Director of Music Ministry is responsible for recruiting, preparing and retaining an ensemble of instrumentalists and vocalists for the principal University Mass on Sunday evening at 7:00 pm and the 9:00 pm.  Praise and Worship Mass. Responsibility includes preparation of musical repertoire, scheduling and running regular rehearsals, and direction and keyboard accompaniment for the ensemble.

  1. Other Liturgical Events
  • The Director of Music Ministry is responsible for providing liturgical music (with the chapel music ensemble) for holy days of obligation during the Academic Year, Ash Wednesday, and special University events such as Family Weekend, Open House/Accepted Students Day, Junior Ring Mass, Alumni Weekend Mass and a Lenten Tenebrae Service.
  • Collaborate with Director of Mount Chorale for Baccalaureate Mass.
  1. Praise and Worship

The Director will serve as a resource for the Praise and Worship prayer group, offering support for recruitment and training of musicians, providing music, and occasionally participating in worship. 

  1. As a member of the Center for Campus Ministry team, the Music Director will present at the Principal University Mass on Sunday evenings and at major Campus Ministry-sponsored events and activities when possible.   S/He will keep office hours as needed in the Campus Ministry center and will participate in staff meetings as requested.
  2. The Music Director is responsible for the proper adherence to and documentation of copyright laws and obtaining the necessary licenses for reprinting and reproduction of copyrighted music.


  • Preferably be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in music, religious studies, or other related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
  • Possess keyboard skills (with strong improvisational skills) and vocal ensemble leadership.
  • Have useful previous experience: parish Music Ministry leadership (especially contemporary music ensemble), Campus Ministry, working with college age students. 
  • Commit to serving a 10 hour week.
