Mount St. Mary’s University seeks outstanding and talented applicants for the position of Founding Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE).

General Description:

The Founding Director will be responsible for leading the establishment of the University’s Center for Entrepreneurship.  The Founding Director will have the strategic skills to envision what the center can become, and the operational management capabilities to make it a reality, and be capable of, and responsible for raising funds for the center. The Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship will be familiar and comfortable in a collaborative environment, as the co-curricular center will collaborate with the academic programs. The Founding Director develops local, statewide and national connections with professors, service providers, entrepreneurs and benefactors to support and grow co-curricular entrepreneurial programs that achieve the strategic mission of the Center and that aids the University’s learning outcome goals.

Under the auspices of the Center of Entrepreneurship, the Director will administer a number of co-curricular programs including an ideas competition, a business plan competition, BIZHACK, Enactus, the Entrepreneurial Leadership Speaker Series, and the Entrepreneur in Residence Program. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and implement a PCE tactical plan to create a valuable resource for entrepreneurship on campus and to be acknowledged as a nationwide program.

  • Develop and execute an operational plan for the PCE.

  • Build an advisory board as advocates and collaborators in growing the PCE.

  • Take the initiative on campus to get people engaged in an atmosphere of innovation, creativity, collaboration, and entrepreneurship at Mount St. Mary’s University.

  • Develop strong relationships within the Maryland business community and serve as a "connector" between the entrepreneurial community and Mount St. Mary’s University.

  • Create working relationships with local organizations such as entrepreneurial groups, economic development groups, and local Chambers.

  • Create lasting relationships with local, state and national organizations and institutions particularly those dealing with entrepreneurship.

  • Develop modern programs to encourage both traditional and non-traditional students to take part in academic credit and non-credit courses, focusing on entrepreneurship.

  • Establish and put into practice workshops, speakers and conferences related to relevant business needs in the area.

  • Coordinate with faculty and administration to deliver PCE programming, experiential learning for students and a university wide entrepreneurship minor.

  • Enable activities of cross functional faculty supporters in their roles as liaisons between the PCE and their schools and programs and as backers for entrepreneurial thinking on the Mount St. Mary’s University campuses.

  • Work in partnership with other units and insiders within the university community.

  • Create and maintain a functioning budget.

  • Oversee professional and student support staff.  

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The Executive Director must be self sufficient with entrepreneurship experience, an effective motivator, and possess the ability to make critical judgements, understand the complexities of an academic environment, and create a collective entrepreneurial community environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree required, preferably in business, marketing or related field; prior entrepreneurial experience is required and knowledge of the area's business and entrepreneurial environment is highly desirable; knowledge and understanding of University organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with multiple constituents

  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in a wide range of business, industry and community partners 

  • Ability to work well in a multi- ethnic and multicultural environment with students, faculty and staff

  • In depth knowledge of small business growth strategies and delivery options 

  • Ability to effectively manage people in a fast paced environment, manage grants and budgets, and design effective programs to deliver for students and program participants
