Minimum Pay Rate:  $10.00/hour
Works Hours: Full Time - 40 hours per week/weekends

Job Duties:                                                                                                                                                         

Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs routine and comprehensive custodial maintenance of assigned facilities.
  • Vacuums, shampoos and spot cleans carpets and furniture as needed; washes windows.
  • Removes trash in accordance with established procedures.
  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms, locker rooms, and other facilities as specified; stocks facilities with paper and supplies.
  • Reports and responds to emergency calls for custodial assistance.
  • Identifies stains and uses proper chemicals for removal.
  • Maintains inventory and submits written requests for supplies; tests and evaluates new supplies and equipment.
  • Some custodial positions may include laundry duties.
  • Must attend all mandatory continuing education/safety classes as provided by MSMU.

Uniform Requirements and Dress Code:

  • It is the policy of Mount St. Mary’s University that each employee’s dress, grooming, and personal hygiene should be appropriate to the work situation.
  • All Custodial Staff will be issued a uniform that must be worn each day. Employees are expected at all times to present a professional, business-like image to students, prospects, and the public. Acceptable personal appearance, like proper maintenance of work areas, is an ongoing requirement of employment with the Mount.
  • Radical departures from conventional dress or personal grooming and hygiene standards are not permitted.
  • Hair should be clean, combed, and neatly trimmed or arranged. Shaggy, unkempt hair is not permissible regardless of length. Hair color should be a natural color (no pink, blue, green, purple, etc.) Sideburns, moustaches, and beards should be neatly trimmed.
  • Tattoos and body piercings/gauges (other than 1 earring per ear) should be kept to a minimum.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or GED.
0-3 years of experience required.

Special Knowledge/Requirements:

  • Experience in stripping/waxing floors and shampooing carpets may be required.
  • Must be familiar with and adhere to all the safety rules and regulations of the University Safety policy which apply to the work environment.
  • Ability to read, write and follow instructions.
  • Must be able to work in adverse conditions.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and with short deadlines.
  • Overtime and weekends may be required.
  • Must be able to work on feet all day.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
