Born in the United Kingdom, Mr. Blackwell, 54, holds a bachelor of arts degree in Philosophy from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. He has also completed graduate work in business, computer science, and philosophy. He has been actively engaged in education for most of his professional career and has served on several advisory boards for Western Washington University, the Foster School of Business at the University Of Washington, Future Business Leaders Of America, and Youth At Risk. He and his wife endow the Downing Montague Scholarship for Healthcare, Technology and Philosophy at Western Washington University.
Mr. Blackwell has 32 years of experience in technology and business. He has served as both a senior executive in a Fortune 100 company and founded technology start-ups. He has had company or department creation and transformation roles as a CEO, CIO, CTO, VP of Product Management, and VP of Digital Marketing. He has done work for Liberty Mutual, The Equitable, Goldman Sachs, Washington Mutual, Bell Labs, NASA, Hasbro, and many other companies. He is also a veteran of the US Army 10th Special Forces and United Nations Joint Security Command.
Long ago he was a published poet and magician. He has enjoyed the sports of climbing, kayaking, taekwondo, and crew but now constrains himself to sailing. He takes a great deal of interest in the physiological, psychological, and philosophical study of happiness. He is married to Juliana Perez and they have three grown children Zane, Tyler, and Lauren.
