Third Century Scholars

MSMU Third Century Scholars 2017-18

Making College a Reality

The Third Century Scholars Program annually recruits a small group of academically distinguished students who have overcome unusual adversity and/or are members of underrepresented groups from the Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, D.C. metro areas who would contribute to the diversity of Mount St. Mary's University.

Many scholars will be the first members of their families to attend college, and some of which will be invited to the Honors Program. Awards contribute to the cost of attendance and are renewable each year provided the recipient remains in good academic standing.

Center for Student Engagement and Success

At the beginning of their first year, all Third Century Scholars participate in programming made available by the Center for Student Engagement and Success. This program provides support for scholars throughout their time at Mount St. Mary’s University by:

  • helping scholars become involved with research early in their college career.
  • introducing scholars to a network of faculty mentors.
  • hosting workshops that focus on topics critical to college success.
  • providing scholars opportunities to meet with other students who have similar concerns.
  • communicating about various opportunities through a weekly email.
  • helping scholars find funding to support their personal research projects.
  • encouraging and helping with applications to graduate school.

Financial Support

Third Century Scholars receive Mount St. Mary's University scholarships, other financial aid, federal grants and student loans that will cover the complete cost of attendance (tuition, room, board, fees and personal expenses) through graduation.
