Alumni Association Scholarships

Reverend Carl J. Fives Alumni Scholarship Program

Beginning in 1934, the Alumni Scholarship was established and awarded to a student and the name of the recipient was included in the annual college catalogue.  At the June 1998 Alumni Reunion Banquet, it was formally announced that the alumni scholarship would be named the Reverend Carl J. Fives Alumni Scholarship Program, in honor of his seven decades of service to the Mount.

In order to qualify, the recipients should be students with a 3.0 Grade Point Average or higher, with no disciplinary record.  Additionally, the Undergraduate recipients will be university juniors entering their senior year; of the undergraduate recipients, one recipient should be a Mount legacy (graduate can be grandparent, parent, sibling, uncle, aunt, or cousin) student; two seminary recipients will receive one half the value of one undergraduate scholarship and will be awarded to fourth year seminarians.

St. Joseph's College Alumnae Scholarship

During the summer of 1809, a friendship was born in Emmitsburg, Maryland between St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and Fr. John Dubois, S.S. When St. Joseph's College closed its doors in 1973, the St. Joseph College Alumnae Association has continued its mission and served as an anchor and pivotal part of the 200 continuous years of education in Emmitsburg.

The Scholarship is awarded to a rising or transfer junior or senior who has a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0, who demonstrates a financial need, and who provides a letter of recommendation from a Mount St. Mary's University faculty member or from another accredited college or university.  First preference will be given to a student who has a relationship or meaningful connection with an alumna from St. Joseph's College.

"I am so excited to receive the St. Joseph College Alumnae Association Scholarship this year. Last fall, I had the extraordinary opportunity to study abroad in Prague, which I paid for by myself. When it came time to think about my spring semester at the Mount, it became clear that living on campus would no longer be possible.  Receiving this scholarship has allowed me to live with the friends who have truly helped define my time at the Mount and now I will certainly have a senior year to remember."
