The seminary enrolls on average over 150 full-time residential seminarians each year. They represent more than 25 dioceses from the U.S., as well as overseas. Some seminarians come from religious communities, others are co-sponsored by the Archdiocese for the Military Services.
Seminary students have opportunities for many extracurricular activities including intramural sports, Legion of Mary, the Militia Immaculata, and seminary sponsored social activities such as concerts, lectures, film series and fine arts programs. In addition the seminary sponsors trips to cultural events in nearby Washington, Gettysburg, and Baltimore, as well as an annual pilgrimage to the Holy Land for the Deacon Class.
Seminary Student Government Association (SGA)
The SGA (Student Government Association) represents the student body of the seminary by making known its viewpoints and recommendations to the rector and faculty for living out the Program of Priestly Formation in all its dimensions: academic life, spiritual formation, the apostolate and pastoral development. The SGA also speaks on behalf of the seminary student body before the wider Mount St. Mary’s University community. The SGA’s Executive Board consists of a president, vice president, secretary and treasurer, elected from each of the five seminary classes (Pre-theology I, II, III and IV).
Mount 2000+ Youth Retreat
Mount2000 is a Eucharistic retreat for high school students sponsored by Mount St. Mary's Seminary and University. The retreat was started by the Mount seminarians about 15-20 years ago in preparation for the Jubilee Year 2000. It was such a great success that the seminarians decided to continue it even after 2000.
Seminarians for Life
The seminary community walks to the Supreme Court in the annual "Right to Life" march, each January with the Human Life International Pro-life Missionaries to the World.
