Each year the Office of Campus Activities sponsors several events that have become Mount traditions. Generations of Mount alums share stories from these events - whether they from the Tiki Dance on opening weekend, to their class ring design, to the Christmas or Homecoming dances.
The first night our first-year students are on campus, they are treated to an amazing late night event that includes live entertainment, caricatures, mechanical rides and the famous Nacho Bar!
Every new academic year kicks off with an action-packed schedule of events the first weekend designed to introduce new students to the Mount community, and to let returning students reconnect. Thursday night includes a state of the art drive-in movie experience with popcorn. Friday night includes a blockbuster comedy show followed by a special Seniors only event involving dueling pianos. Saturday includes a Maryland-style crabfest, and a Tiki Dance at night. AMP co-sponsors the events.
The second weekend of the academic year is just as exciting as the first! The action starts Friday evening with a block party featuring a rock-climbing wall, inflatables, and a special activity such as hot air balloon rides! The event includes an activities fair - where students can sign up for clubs and organizations. The night concludes with an outdoor concert in the middle of campus featuring a nationally renowned band!
FamilyFest happens in September and is a great opportunity for families to visit their students at the Mount to see what life is like on campus and participate in all kinds of fun activities. With live entertainment, delicious food and activities for kids of all ages, FamilyFest is a wonderful Mount tradition!
Some highlights of this event include:
BBQ Lunch on Founder's Plaza
Live Entertainment and Musical Performances

Mass in the Grotto and Chapel of the Immaculate Conception
For almost 100 years, Mount students have participated in the Ring Tradition. Each class chooses their own design so every class ring is unique to that year. Junior students are presented their rings at the annual Ring Mass and wear them as a reminder of the goal of graduation. Alumni proudly wear their rings as an outward symbol of their time at the Mount, their accomplishments, their memories and their Mountaineer pride.
The tradition begins every year in the fall, when the class ring is revealed and the junior class places orders. Students are then presented with these timeless symbols during a full Catholic mass, where the rings are blessed in the presence of family, friends and the Mount Community. That same evening, the junior class holds a semi-formal Ring Dance to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Order Rings Online
Rings can be purchased online at www.balfour.com simply by searching for “Mount St. Mary’s University” and selecting “Class of” in the “Rings” section. Representatives from Balfour will also be on campus for sizing and ordering assistance on various dates.
Junior Class Ring Mass
All members of the junior class and their family and friends are welcome to attend the Ring Mass and Reception regardless of whether the student has chosen to purchase a class ring or not.
Junior Class Semi-Formal Ring Dance
All members of the junior class are also invited to attend and are allowed to bring one guest. Guests may be outside of the junior class or non-Mount students. All students and guests must bring photo ID to be admitted to the dance.
Each year we celebrate the end of the fall semester with an extravagant Christmas dance. Patriot Hall is transformed into a winter wonderland with a live DJ! Co-sponsored by AMP.
Each spring semester we celebrate MSMU students past and present with an elegant celebration. Patiot Hall is transformed into a venue that embodies Mount history and Mount pride, while at the same time providing a great dance experience with a live DJ and photo booth! The event is co-sponsored by AMP.
The spring semester closes with a weekend of live music and a great dance party. On Friday night students enjoy an outdoor concert featuring national recording artists such as Twenty One Pilots, X Ambassadors, MisterWives and New Politics, just to name a few artist who have performed in past years. Saturday is GlowRage- a paint dance party often described as the most fun event of the year. Co-sponsored by AMP, the weekend precedes the last week of academic classes..
