How You Can Help Your Son/Daughter
We know the important role that you play in your son's or daughter's decision making process relating to career development. These pages are designed to help you help your son or daughter in the career development process.
Here are a few suggestions to help your son or daughter in his or her career planning. Encourage your son or daughter to:
Explore various majors that are of interest and in which he/she has the academic skills to successfully complete;
Visit the Career Center early in his/her academic career to map out a personalized Career Action Plan;
Obtain career related work experience before graduation through an internship;
Network with people in various career fields;
Participate in job, internship and graduate school fairs, on-campus recruiting, and other career related events.
In addition, ask your employer to consider posting internships and jobs with the Career Center at www.collegecentral.com/msmary
"Employers want you to have a range of experiences. They want to know you showed up on time, did the work and were accountable in a professional manner in any position. That's career development. That's what the college journey is for."
