Courageous Dialogue, Meaningful Action
Under the umbrella of the University Task Force, more than 100 faculty, students, administrators, staff and community members served on 10 working groups during the Fall 2020 semester to engage in a holistic review of and action plan to address social justice issues on our campus and in our surrounding communities. In 2024, the Office of Solidarity, Engagement and Success published a report summarizing the outcomes of the operational plan.
Our four-year Solidarity, Engagement and Success (SES) strategic plan (2024-28) supports Goal 6 of the University Strategic Plan (deepen our culture of care by honoring, supporting, and uplifting our people). Grounded in our Catholic identity and our belief in the inherent dignity of every person, the plan’s initiatives seek to cultivate a campus culture where all members are respected, valued, and empowered to thrive.
Established in 2013, the Solidarity, Engagement and Success Committee is charged with developing and advancing the university’s strategic vision for building a campus culture where all community members are respected, valued and empowered to thrive. Rooted in the principle of solidarity, the committee supports efforts across the university to foster an environment where each person can participate fully in community life and achieve their full potential. The committee reports to Mount Council and advises the president on SES-related matters. It also collaborates with the Office of Solidarity, Engagement and Success to support and implement university-wide initiatives. Co-chaired by Vice President for Human Resources and Community Engagement Paula Whetsel-Ribeau, Ph.D., and Director of the Center for Service and Justice, Francis Lukban, it is comprised of representatives from all campus constituencies.
