About the program.

The Mount's Master of Science in biotechnology and management (MSB) program will prepare you to successfully meld an understanding of both science and business to advance your career. This 36-credit program follows a cohort model, meeting one night per week for each eight-week course at the Mount's Frederick campus.

Course content is focused on developing advanced scientific and professional skills. From a business standpoint, you'll gain knowledge in project management, industry regulations, financial reporting and the process of moving products to market. Additionally, you'll learn about product development, marketing and personnel management.

Topics in science will include biotechnology, protein biochemistry, molecular genetics, bioinformatics, experimental design, statistical analysis, drug discovery and FDA regulations. Research ethics and an understanding of the ethical framework in which the business of biotechnology is situated will also be covered.

As a graduate of the Mount's Master of Science in Biotechnology and Management (MSB) you will be poised to assume leadership responsibilities in your organization and will be able to pursue positions such as a biomedical engineer for a medical research facility, a biochemist, making pharmaceuticals safer and more effective, or a microbiologist with a government research lab.

Program Format

The MSB program is designed for working adults in biotechnology or related industries. The Mount focuses on student success and emphasizes ethics and values.

  • Finish in only two years. 12 courses are offered in 8-week sessions, allowing you to focus on one class at a time.
  • Attend convenient classes. Meet part-time one night per week (6-9:30 p.m.). Our Frederick campus is minutes from I-70 and I-270. Hybrid and online classes may also be available.
  • Support from classmates and faculty. 24 students begin and end the program together, allowing you to connect with classmates. Classes begin in August.

  • Cost is based on 36 credits (12 courses) at $670 per credit
  • Students may transfer in up to nine (9) credits
  • Based on transcript analysis, prerequisite courses may be required for an additional cost ($430* per course)

Applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree in biology or a related field. A complete application includes:
