Coursework & Format

The Mount's Master of Education in instructional leadership program is for education professionals who are seeking administrative certification. Our goal is to provide you with the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to take on today's challenges in education and make a difference in the lives of students.

Courses will cover current trends in education, principles of school leadership and administration, and strategic planning and leadership to name just a few. In curriculum design, implementation and assessment, you'll explore how educational content is developed and evaluated in response to political, social, economic, legal and cultural contexts. Courses will also guide you through other topics such as managing school finances, educational policy and school law, and improving instruction through supervision.

Lastly, you'll complete a full-year leadership practicum, which focuses on the day-to-day needs that arise within a school, as well as build a portfolio that reflects your experience related to relevant national and state leadership standards.

Most classes are offered in an eight-week format so that you can balance your career with coursework. Upon program completion, you will be eligible for administrator I or administrator II certification from the Maryland State Department of Education.
