About the program.

At the conclusion of your coursework you will be eligible for teaching certification in Maryland. You will also gain hands-on teaching experience during two internships.

The Mount’s program is designed for working adults. Courses are offered one night per week during the academic year and two nights per week during the summer at campuses in Frederick and Emmitsburg. Students can also remote into our classrooms and several courses are online.

Affordability & Financial Aid

  • $600 - Total cost per credit.*
  • Additional internship I and II lab fees ($275 and $350).*
  • Students may transfer in up to nine (9) graduate credits.
  • No application fee.

*Tuition represents 2023-24 rates, effective July 1, 2023. Tuition is subject to change without notice. MAT programs require between 40-55 credits.

Financial Aid

Students enrolled on at least half-time basis (6-credits per semester) may qualify for financial aid. You may seek financial assistance through federal and state-funded programs, private loan providers, or deferment of undergraduate loans.

The Mount also has a variety of employer tuition remission or reimbursement agreements with local school systems, businesses and community colleges, so you may just get a discount from your employer or previous college. Learn more about Graduate Student Financial Aid at the Mount.

Admissions & Application

The MAT is designed for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree in a field other than Education and are seeking a master’s degree with certification to teach.

Students learn how to teach, not what to teach. Therefore, the program requires you demonstrate significant content knowledge in the area of certification being pursued.

  • Classes begin: January, May, June, July, August.
  • Admissions: Rolling.
  • No application fee.

Application Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution with a minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Official transcript(s) from all accredited four-year institutions attended after high school
  • Prerequisites may be required
