The MSB program is designed for working adults in biotechnology or related industries. The Mount focuses on student success and emphasizes ethics and values.
This program is available to be completed fully online asynchronous and/or synchronous.

Students may seek financial assistance through federal and state funded programs, private loan providers, employer tuition remission or reimbursement, or deferment of undergraduate loans. The Mount also has a variety of employer tuition remission or reimbursement agreements with local businesses and community colleges, so you may just get a discount from your employer or previous college. Graduate Student Financial AidApplicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree in biology, biological sciences or a related field. If applicant does not hold a biology, biological sciences or related degree, prerequisites may be required. Online MSB Bridge Modules are available to provide an adequate foundation in chemistry, molecular biology, cell biology and genetics in the MSB curriculum. Learn About the BS/MSB dual degreeThe MSB program combines advanced scientific knowledge with business management skills, preparing graduates for leadership roles in the biotechnology industry. The curriculum emphasizes ethics, biotechnology literacy, regulatory understanding, and business acumen.
Students typically complete the MSB program in 24 months. However, this program is designed for students to proceed at the pace that best fits their lifestyle. Students can finish in as little as 12 months. The program consists of 12 courses, each delivered in 8-week sessions, allowing students to focus on one course at a time.
Yes, the MSB program can be completed fully online. Courses are delivered in a mix of asynchronous, synchronous, and hybrid formats—giving you the option to attend in person or join live via web conferencing.
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree to be considered for the program. Those with non-science degrees can still pursue the program by first completing the Mount’s online, asynchronous, and self-paced MSB Bridge Modules. These modules provide essential foundational knowledge in chemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, and genetics. They’re also available to students seeking a refresher in any of these areas.
No, there is no application fee.
Courses begin in August, October, January, March, May and July. Applications are evaluated year-round and should be submitted at least four weeks prior to the student’s preferred start date.
Synchronous classes meet once per week from 6–9:30 p.m. EST in a flexible blended format: either in-person or online. Asynchronous self-paced online courses are also offered.

MSMU also partners with many local businesses, membership organizations and colleges to offer 20% tuition partnership discounts.
Students benefit from personalized guidance from a science program director and dedicated faculty peer support, and flexible course delivery. Most professors are active professionals in biotech, bringing real-world experience to the classroom. The science program director works with students one on one to support course selection, connect students with tutoring, writing center support, Learning Services to support accommodations and career counseling.
