My trip to Greece was one of the most liberating decisions that I have ever made. Like most students, I was unsure and nervous about leaving for an entire semester, but the Mount's flexibility and support made my decision much easier. Being able to see so much of Europe for an affordable price, with the guidance of Dr. Tsoukatos, made the trip worthwhile in so many ways... This trip both humbled and shaped me into a better person and I feel extremely grateful and blessed to have had this opportunity at such a young age. I strongly encourage other students to consider going abroad.

Talented and motivated students have a unique educational experience in the Honors Program that integrates curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular learning in both interdisciplinary study and the student's major.
Honors courses are stimulating and challenging, and feature close faculty-student interaction within small classes.
The Office of Competitive Fellowships assists students and alumni of the Mount community with the application process for highly competitive and distinguished awards, such as the Fulbright, Marshall, Rhodes, Goldwater, and Gates Cambridge Scholarship.
These awards typically fund a number of opportunities, often in an international setting, including graduate education, research and experiential learning, nonprofit or political service, and foreign language study.
The Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship funds a study abroad program for first year, sophomore, and junior students with a 3.0 or higher GPA who “identify as an ethnicity typically underrepresented on study abroad programs (e.g. American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander).” It honors the legacy of Douglass through supporting these students and emphasizing “leadership, social justice, agitation for positive change and cross-cultural understanding.
Those who win the fellowship will have their study abroad and travel fully covered for a four-week, 3 credit program in Ireland tracing the footsteps of Douglass’s visit to the country. Apart from the program and initiative itself, two things about this application are really great:

The Boren Awards are an initiative of the Defense Language and National Security Education Office (DLNSEO). Boren Scholarships fund study abroad for U.S. undergraduate students in regions of the world that are critical to U.S. interests.

The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program awarded nearly 1,500 outstanding and diverse U.S. undergraduate students with scholarships to participate in study abroad programs in more than 80 countries worldwide.

The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation provides scholarships for undergraduate sophomores or juniors majoring in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering who are interested in graduate research. The Foundation identifies the following eligibility criteria:

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) provides immersion language study abroad opportunities to U.S. college and university students. Students interested in languages that are essential to America's engagement with the world are eligible. The Critical Language Scholarship Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government. According to the CLS Program website, it is supported in its implementation by American Councils for International Education.

It has changed our lives to be able to spend nearly three months in the beautiful country and we could not have done it without your unwavering support. Not only did you allow us the opportunity to tour the Amazon Region, study animal evolution in the Galapagos Islands, and learn many parts of the Latin American culture, but you also gave us so many amazing memories worth cherishing and making lifelong friendships we hope to continue to nurture. The Mount teaches us to live a life of significance, and this trip was just one of the many steps along our journey. We hope to return to the Mount as better students and will continue to follow our mission through service to God and others!

There is a perception that some majors and some student-athletes cannot fit study abroad in their schedule, but all students are able to meet with their advisor to schedule it around course requirements.
