From working with French agricultural, financial or aerospace companies, to helping improve living conditions for people in French-speaking developing countries, those that understand the French language have the ability to build relationships with different cultures and better connect our world.
The undergraduate degree program in French is part of the College of Liberal Arts, which is about making connections freely—exploring human achievement, examining the past critically and discovering ways to build upon it, and understanding yourself and our diverse world in order to transform it.
Learn about the College of Liberal ArtsWith a bachelor’s degree in French from the Mount, you’ll develop proficiency in all four language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing – while also improving your creative, analytic and problem-solving skills.
You’ll study the development of French literature and culture from the Middle Ages to the French Revolution to modern day. Courses will also cover French-speaking cultures outside of France, including Belgium, Luxembourg
As an important complement to your time spent on campus, you’ll be encouraged to study abroad. You’ll have the opportunity to visit and study in Tours, France, where you’ll have an immersive atmosphere to practice your foreign language skills, gain valuable cultural insights and make lasting personal relationships.
These practical skills will enable you to work for and with French-speaking organizations and businesses around the globe. With a French degree from the Mount combined with a minor in a complementary field, you’ll be able to pursue a career with a government agency helping improve international trade policy, as a French teacher in secondary education, or in sales and marketing for a French hotel.
