About the program.

The Mount’s health science and nursing dual degree program is designed to prepare you for admission into one of our partner institutions to finalize your bachelor’s degree and pursue a nursing degree.

While at the Mount, you’ll build a foundation in scientific topics such as anatomy, physiology, statistics and lifespan development. Equally as important, you’ll study courses in ethics, philosophy and foundations in social science, helping develop a more human approach to patient care.

The second phase of this program focuses on nursing-specific coursework at one of the Mount’s partner institutions – either the University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) located in downtown Baltimore or in Montgomery County, Maryland, or Shenandoah University (SU) located in Winchester, Virginia.

Some topics you’ll find in each program cover pharmacology, mental health and health care through various life stages. You’ll also learn through real-world situations, as both UMSON and SU offer clinical experiences at hospitals and medical practices.

After completion of the dual degree program, you’ll earn a Bachelor of Science degree in health science and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, and will be qualified to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to obtain licensure as a registered nurse.
