From guiding patients through treatment plans or major surgery to helping people regain their ability to manage daily tasks, health care professionals continuously strive to keep others living their best lives possible.
The health sciences program is part of the School of Natural Science and Mathematics. Our goal as a department is to graduate women and men that are uniquely equipped to provide scientific perspective and solutions to the complex problems facing humanity.
The health sciences degree at the Mount prepares you to enter graduate school
You’ll study anatomy, physiology, biostatistics and bioorganic chemistry, as well as topics related to medical technology, human dignity, issues of fairness in health care and the origins and current state of the U.S. health care sector.
You’ll have the option for classes in methods and issues in bioethics from a Catholic vision of the human person, health care psychology or the sociology of medicine. In addition to foundational courses, you’ll also pursue one of the major’s three tracks, including pre-nursing, pre-physical therapy or pre-occupational therapy.
The health sciences degree from the Mount will help you build the foundation for a career as a nurse working for a regional hospital, a physical therapist helping people at a community health center, or an occupational therapist caring for others at an assisted living facility.
