Interdisciplinary Studies

Create your own major, choose your own path.

Interdisciplinary studies provides an opportunity to combine different academic fields, allowing you to build a plan that helps you reach your unique career goals. If you’re interested in creating your own major, speak with a faculty advisor who can help you design a custom curriculum sequence based on your interests and aspirations.

College of Liberal Arts

The interdisciplinary studies program is part of the College of Liberal Arts, which is about making connections freely, exploring human achievement, examining the past critically and discovering ways to build upon it, and understanding yourself and our diverse world in order to transform it.

About the program.

Students may choose to complete an interdisciplinary major that they design in consultation with appropriate faculty. Such majors must be approved by the appropriate department chairs and the associate provost.

Any student proposing to design an interdisciplinary major must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better, and must submit a self-design plan along with the signed declaration of major form. Self-Design plans are available in the associate provost's office. Declaration of major forms are available in the Office of the Registrar or online.

For more information on creating your major, contact your advisor.

About the minor.

Interdisciplinary minors give you a chance to expand your focus of study across several academic areas of interest rather than concentrating within a single department. Select one of our popular multi-disciplinary minors or work with a faculty advisor to create your own tailored plan of study.
