With a graduate certificate in advanced study in reading from the Mount, you will be prepared to lead your school’s literacy initiatives as a literacy specialist or coach. Advance Your Career as a Reading Specialist or Literacy Coach

Graduates of the program are eligible for certification as a reading specialist, K-12, from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). The Mount's program includes:

  • Emphasis on planning for culturally and linguistically diverse and neurodiverse students.
  • Six courses and a practicum (24 credits total) that can be completed on a part-time basis.
  • Evening online classes, synchronous and asynchronous, are designed for working adults.
  • National recognition by the International Literacy Association.
  • Accredited by -the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation ( (AAQEP).

Affordability & Financial Aid

The graduate certificate in advanced study in reading is for certified teachers who hold a bachelor's degree. Candidates are seeking the professional role of reading specialist/literacy coach in grades K-12.

  • $14,540 - Estimated total cost of program tuition, including fees.*
  • Cost is based on 24 credits (6 classes and one 6 credit practicum) at $600 per credit, plus practicum fee ($140).*
  • No application fee.
  • Financial assistance may be available through federal and state-funded programs, private loan providers, employer tuition remission or reimbursement, or deferment of undergraduate loans.

Financial Aid

Students enrolled on at least half-time basis (6-credits per semester) may qualify for financial aid. You may seek financial assistance through federal and state-funded programs, private loan providers, or deferment of undergraduate loans.
