Applied Music Lessons

Applied music lessons are an opportunity for students to work one-on-one with an instructor to perfect their instrument of choice. Applied instruction is available to all enrolled Mount students by outstanding professional performers and pedagogues.

Students have weekly, one-hour-long sessions with instructors, earning one credit hour per course. Courses are subject to registration fees.

The Mount offers basic, intermediate and advanced instruction in the following:

  • Piano

  • Voice

  • Guitar

  • Woodwinds

  • Brass

  • Percussion

  • Strings

Basic Lessons

In basic lessons the emphasis on technique, essential musicianship and reading skills. Lessons are open to all students, but seniors may not enroll in their first 100-level course in the spring semester. Courses may be repeated for credit and music majors may enroll in a maximum of one 100-level course. Instructional fees apply.

Intermediate Juried Lessons

Intermediate instruction in voice or the selected instrument provides an emphasis on technique, development of repertory and musicality. Students will present a brief juried performance at the end of the semester. Prerequisites include a 100-level course or permission of instructor. Instructional fee will be applied.

Advanced Juried Lessons

Advanced instruction in voice or the selected instrument provides an emphasis on technique, development of repertory and musicality. Students present a brief juried solo performance and perform in group recital at the end of the semester. Prerequisites include a 200-level course or permission of instructor. Instructional fee will be applied.
