Major Gifts

A major gift usually begins when a benefactor is deeply engaged with the Mount and chooses to support the university at a level of $25,000 or above. This kind of significant contribution to the university can be made as a single gift or spread out over the course of 3-5 years.

Customizable Gift Plans

Many of the Mount's major benefactors are annual donors and have dedicated a portion of their gift to support the Annual Fund which provides resources for the university's most important financial needs, such as attracting and maintaining top faculty, creating new and innovative curricula, or providing scholarships to our bright and deserving students.

Additionally, these benefactors choose to invest in special projects near and dear to their hearts. or in a dedicated campaign that really moves the university such as Forward! Together as One.

Here are a few examples of customized major gift plans.

Example 1: Eleanor

Eleanor McCDonald is passionate about fine art painting and came to the Mount to see a visiting artist in the Williams Art Gallery. At the cozy yet vibrant gallery opening the visiting artist shared a discussion with a young professor and his two gifted student painters. Intrigued by the passion to which the students described the artist intentionally feathered brushstrokes, and the professor's encouragement of their deeper understanding of the form, Eleanor engaged in a two hour discussion that made a lasting impact. She learned many things about te students, from how connected the classroom is with the Mount's mission, to how students wanted more free space to create art.

Sparked by the intimacy of the setting and the care brought to the students growth through the one-on-one advisement, Eleanor felt compelled to support the Mount's growing artists and the arts program, and help to create more space on campus for budding artists. Here is an example of how Eleanor's gift of $35,000 can support both an annual gift, such as student scholarships, with a special project gift such as upgrades to a student space.
