mount-distance-challenge-logo

The Mount Distance Challenge is a way to challenge yourself, your friends or your coworkers. Since it happens over the course of an entire month, it is a great way to start or reinforce a regular exercise routine. To participate, you’ll have to get outside and get moving and that’s great for anyone’s mental and physical health! Walk, hike or run your way to your distance goal!

Mount Distance Challenge FAQs

Where can I log miles?

If you are on campus, use the Mount’s hiking trails that leave from the grotto or the DiNunzio trail on the east side of campus. If you are remote or live off-campus, use trails or paths around your neighborhood. The point is to challenge yourself and see how many miles you can walk / hike / run in a month. Unfortunately, due to the limitations of the app we are using to log miles we cannot accept miles that were done on a treadmill.

Can I walk some miles and run others?

Yes! Just make sure all your miles are classified as “runs” in the app.

What app will we be using?

All participants must log their miles through Strava. You will be sent specific instructions for how to set up and use Strava for this event after you register. If you are new to Strava or you are already a user, you still need to register for the event by selecting the above button and follow the directions we send you to complete your registration. The free Strava account will work for this event. There is no need to get a paid Strava account to participate.

If I complete my distance goal early in the month, can I bump my distance goal up to the next level?

Yes. Just send an email to crux@msmary.edu and we will take care of it for you.

Can I compete as both an individual and part of a team?

Employees can participate as an individual AND as a member of their department’s team, but unfortunately, this option is only available to employees.

If you want to be a part of your department’s team you must choose to do this at the time when you register as an individual. The registration form will take you through the process of joining your department’s team. Please ensure all team members use the same department name. We may not be able to go back after you register and add you to a department’s team so please make sure you decide if you will be part of your department’s team before you register.

If you join your department’s team your miles will count toward your personal distance goal AND your department’s distance goal. Departmental distance goals are 250 miles, 500 miles and 750 miles. After all the members of your team have registered, have someone from your team email crux@msmary.edu with your department’s distance goal by April 1.
