It’s a busy week of Mount hoops. Here are the upcoming basketball games for this week:
After the first week of classes, join us on January 23 from 8 to 11 p.m. for one of our favorite events and test your luck for a chance to win some awesome prizes! Available games are blackjack, roulette, craps and Texas hold'em. Students of all skill levels are welcome to play. If you don't know how to play, our friendly event staff will teach you how to play each game (and give you helpful tips). Students will be provided with "casino cash" to participate in the games and can exchange their play money for casino chips used to enter into various raffles for prizes. No pre-registration is required for this event (Mount ID required for check-in purposes). There is no buy-in or any cost (this event is free for Mount students).
Celebrate The Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, patron of the National Shrine Grotto! Enroll your loved one in a Novena of Masses, from February 2-11. Visit nsgrotto.org/lourdesenrollment to enroll your loved one!
Lifetouch Portraits will be on campus to take Senior Portraits for the Class of 2026 on February 2, 3 and 4. Photo session will take place in the Knott Auditorium – upper-level lobby. Schedule your appointment today. Appointments are limited. Don't miss this opportunity to be photographed for Senior Portraits on campus!
Welcome Back, Mount Students! Over the break, residence halls were inspected with the Frederick County Fire Marshal. You may find a Notice of Violation door hanger in your room. These are non-disciplinary warnings intended to help keep you safe. However, repeated violations can lead to disciplinary action under the Student Code of Conduct.
The most common issue we found was improper use of power strips, such as daisy chaining (plugging one strip into another) or plugging appliances like mini fridges into extension cords. These practices are among the leading causes of fires in college housing. We corrected many of these during inspections.
Other violations included open-flame candles, smoking, vaping and related paraphernalia. These are strictly prohibited in Mount St. Mary’s residence halls. Also, remember that tampering with smoke detectors, sprinklers, or other life safety equipment is illegal and can result in serious consequences. This includes deliberately activating a false fire alarm or using an emergency exit during normal, safe, routine activities.
We encourage everyone to review our fire safety video and help us keep everyone safe. Let’s all Be Mount Safe!
The Center for Service and Justice’s Mount Table, the Mount’s free supplemental food resource, will be open during this first week of classes by appointment only. Please email Assistant Director for the Center for Service & Justice Lucia Mendez Cabello (l.g.mendezcabello@msmary.edu) to schedule your appointment. Regular Mount Table hours—Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4 to 8 p.m. will resume Tuesday, January 27.
There are only four (4!) seats left for the Summer 2026 trip to Florence (June 12 to July 6). If you would like to visit the greatest city in the known universe, earn six credits, and hang with your new best friends, send a note of inquiry to Dr. John-Paul Heil, Ph.D., (heil@msmary.edu) or Bryan Zygmont, Ph.D., (b.j.zygmont@msmary.edu).
