In anticipation of the winter storm this weekend, the Center for Service & Justice’s Mount Table—the Mount’s free supplemental food resource, located in McGowan 114—will be open today from 3-6 p.m. Stock up on groceries before the snow falls! We look forward to serving you.
Mount Theatre is thrilled to announce auditions for Ken Ludwig's heartfelt and humorous play, "Dear Jack, Dear Louis," inspired by true events and real wartime letters. This charming two-person show tells the story of two strangers--an army doctor and an aspiring actress--who begin writing letters during World War II and slowly discover an unexpected connection that could change their lives forever.
Carousel is not just a "classic musical." It's one of the most bold, emotional, and powerful stories ever written for the American stage and it still hits hard today.
We hope that your semester has started well! The esports program will be holding tryouts for our teams next week, January 26-31. If you're interested, please fill out this esports interest form. We have varsity teams in Smash Bros, Valorant, Overwatch and Rocket League. Beyond our varsity teams, we're always open to starting new teams if there is enough student interest, so please fill out the form with your interests even if you don't compete in any of those games. We also welcome players of all skill levels and work to create multiple rosters for the games that we support so that students who are just starting to think about competitive play still have a place where they can learn and improve.
The first workshop this semester in the Transforming the Mount professional development certificate program for employees will be HR 108: Student Employee Essentials. Facilitated by Kristin Hurley, it will be offered on Tuesday, January 27 from noon to 1 p.m. in O’Hara Dining Room and by Zoom. This workshop counts toward the Human Resources track.
This session provides student employment hiring managers and supervisors with the knowledge and tools to successfully employ student workers at the Mount. Participants will learn how to navigate the hiring process, from posting positions and reviewing applications to onboarding and training student employees. The session also covers best practices for supporting students during their employment, including compliance and supervision. Whether you are new to student employment or seeking to enhance your approach, this workshop offers practical guidance to ensure a positive and productive experience for both students and departments.
Please register in advance. Register as soon as possible so we can place an accurate order for lunch. You can use the same registration link to sign up for other professional development workshops offered this Spring.

Any faculty, student, staff, or administrator can nominate a rising senior for the Thomas Merton Award. Students from the class of 2027 cannot nominate themselves, but may ask someone from the Mount community to complete a nomination form on their behalf. All nominations are due by February 27, 2026.
The award will be given to one student who has demonstrated exceptional community service to the Mount and strives to live out our mission: “As a Catholic university, Mount St. Mary’s graduates’ ethical leaders who are inspired by a passion for learning and lead lives of significance in service to God and others.” Although service is the principal characteristic, academic performance and financial need will also be considered. Please email questions to financialaid@msmary.edu.
The Thomas Merton Award was established by Mrs. Janice O’Malley and her late husband, Peter F. O’Malley, Jr. in loving memory of Peter’s parents for the care, affection, leadership, and service they generously gave to family, friends, and the community.
If your answer is “yes,” send an email to kumar@msmary.edu for more information. Students can earn academic credits while writing for the Echo.
