SHIFTurn's Communication Workshop helps participants build the confidence and practical skills needed to express themselves clearly in real-life situations and in the workplace. Participants explore how to communicate with employers in professional and respectful ways, including how to ask questions when they do not understand a task, how to respond to feedback, and handling conflicts so they can communicate with greater confidence in the workplace and beyond. This is a free workshop! The event takes places on October 5 from 7-8 p.m. on Zoom. Check your email for the Zoom link.

Mount St. Mary's University offers Ombuds Services as a confidential, informal, independent, and impartial resource for faculty, administrators, staff, and student workers. The Ombuds Office provides a safe place to discuss concerns, explore options, seek guidance, and navigate challenging situations. Whether you are experiencing conflict, have ethical concerns, questions about workplace interactions, or simply need a neutral person to listen, the Ombuds Office is available to help.
Ombuds services operate under four core principles: Independent (separate from formal decision-making processes), Impartial (does not advocate for any individual or outcome), Confidential (conversations are private, subject to limited exceptions), and Informal (does not participate in formal investigations or grievance procedures).
You may wish to contact the Ombuds Office if you are experiencing a workplace concern, exploring options before taking action, seeking help resolving a conflict, or would benefit from a confidential conversation with a neutral third party.
The Mount's Ombuds Office is led by Dr. Jack Trammell and Dr. Christina L. Green, both of whom are trained according to International Ombuds Association standards. Dr. Green also brings specialized mediation training from Cornell University that supports the Office's conflict-resolution services. For assistance, contact ombuds@msmary.edu. Additional information is available on the Mount Ombuds website.
