Master of Science in Sport Management

Coursework & Format

The Master of Science in sport management program - the only one in the state of Maryland - offers a convenient location in Frederick, Maryland, along with evening classes one to two nights per week.

Through the program, you'll enhance your understanding of sport business and governance, sport marketing and development, and event and facility management. Topics in sociocultural aspects of sport management, legal liability in sport, and moral and ethical issues in sport management will also be covered. Finish the program with an independent study project or internship.

Members of the Mount's sport management advisory board include representatives of the Washington Redskins, Under Armour, the Maryland Stadium Authority, Monumental Sports & Entertainment and the Tiger Woods Foundation. Opportunities for networking, as well as connecting with other industry influencers are also provided.

Develop your career and pursue positions such as a front office administrator for a professional sports organization, a director of athletic development for a college or university, or an event coordinator with youth sport leagues.

Affordability & Financial Aid

Affordability

Graduate level programs are designed to be taken one course at a time, providing you the flexibility you need to complete the classes at your own pace; with that the program pricing is set by credit hours instead of by the year like traditional undergraduate programs. 

  • $24,120 - Estimated total cost of program*. No additional fees.

  • Cost is based on 36 credits (12 classes) at $670 per credit

  • Students may transfer in up to nine (9) credits

  • Based on undergraduate transcript analysis, prerequisite courses may be required for an additional cost ($430 per course)

*Tuition represents 2019-20 rates, effective July 1, 2019. Tuition is subject to change without notice.

Financial Aid

Students enrolled on at least half-time basis (6-credits per semester) may qualify for financial aid. You may seek financial assistance through federal and state-funded programs, private loan providers, or deferment of undergraduate loans. The Mount also has a variety of employer tuition remission or reimbursement agreements with local businesses and community colleges, so you may just get a discount from your employer or previous college. Admissions & Application

Admission to the program is rolling, which means we accept applications at any time of the year. Classes for the certificate begin at various times of the year including January, March, May, July, August and October, and submitting your application four weeks before your expected start date ensures a priority application decision. There is no application fee.

Admissions Requirements

The MSSM is designed for individuals who completed a bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited four-year institution. Additionally, students must demonstrate one of the following:

  • Undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher or;

  • Five full years of relevant work experience or;

  • 500 minimum score on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

Additional requirements may be applicable to international students.
